Bandipur National Park, officially known as Bandipur Tiger Reserve, is one of India’s premier wildlife sanctuaries, located in the Chamarajanagar District of Karnataka. Situated along the Mysuru–Ooty Highway, the park forms part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve and shares its boundaries with Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (Tamil Nadu), Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary (Kerala), and Nagarhole National Park (Karnataka).
Spread across over 870 sq. km, Bandipur is home to Bengal tigers, Asian elephants, leopards, gaurs, deer, sloth bears, wild dogs, and more than 300 species of birds. The park is famous for its jeep safaris, bus safaris, birdwatching, and rich biodiversity, making it an ideal destination for wildlife enthusiasts, photographers, families, and nature lovers.
Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit Bandipur National Park is from October to May, when the weather is pleasant and wildlife sightings are more frequent. Early morning and evening safaris offer the best chances of spotting animals.
